What’s happening at OKK

Belay device rules will be updated from 1.6. onwards. From June onwards, belaying with atc/tube-style passive devices isn’t allowed in our rope hall. You can use assisted devices such as Grigri, Smart, Revo, Pinch, Giga Jul and others like these. The same change is coming to other Finnish climbing gyms starting in August. The aim is to reduce the change of accidents in indoor rope climbing walls.

The auto belay devices annual check-up begins at the end of June. We will send the devices to be checked in two batches. This means there will be a minimum of 7 line in use at all times. The first batch starts it’s journey on 30.6. and we should have all devices back in use by the start of August.

Stökt wall  will be reset during 2.-7.7. We will take down the holds during 2.-3.7. Thu-Fri and during 6.-7.7. we’ll set the new layout. We might still adjust the holds during the following couple days after which the new layout will be added to Stötk for you to make new routes.

Starting course has been added to July’s course calendar on 16.7. at 17.00. If you’ve wanted to get started with climbing but would like to get some advice and tips on how to get into it, sign up now! During the course you will get to try out climbing on bouldering walls, autobelay lines and on top rope. We will also go through the most common gear you might want to invest in at the start. During the climbing you’ll get advice on climbing techniques to make progress easier. We will take a limited amount of participants to the course so the guide will be able to give advice to everyone. On Wednesday  8.7. we’ll organize a “Sauna & pizza” evening during 18-00. This means we’ll be making pizzas for everyone interested during the evening at our roof top terrace. You can join the sauna turn when you’ve either paid for a single entry or signed in with your 10x/month card/membership and pay 5 € for the sauna ticket. During the special evenings you can buy pizza for 10 €.  Pizza’s must be pre ordered through here.

Climbers sauna turn continues through the summer as well. The sauna turn is held on Wednesdays that haven’t been reserved. You can check if there’s a sauna turn from our reservation calendar. If the calendar has “OKK saunavuoro”, just come climb and pop into the sauna! We will add the sauna turns to calendar a week in advance if the sauna floor hasn’t been reserved. Remember to pay for the sauna ticket and enter the sauna floor before the main hall closes!

Member week is coming up in week 32! During the week members will receive discounts on climbing gear, can bring friends and family to climb for free and on 8.8. Sat we will host a sauna evening that’s free for members. There will be good company, a hot sauna, a warm hot tub (or cold if there’s a heatwave going on) and of course food on the house!

Routefestival event is held again this year in August. The event is set on 8.8. Sat. You can join the event with a regular entry fee or a sign in from your serial/member card. There will we all kinds of climbing challenges, music, ice cream buffet and a bunch of new routes! If you want to continue the evening, you can buy a 10 € after party ticket to our sauna floor. Our yearly members get free access to the sauna. You can come sit in the sauna, hop in the hot tub and enjoy some food. Set the date into your calendar and come join us!
